Not that anyone asked me but I love the sunsets and traveling down a road that looks like it's fading into the sky. Western Oklahoma is underrated, even in it's own state.

Yes, there is something to be said for the emptiness, the open horizon which seems to free the soul.

But, on those cold, brutal nights when the wind howls down the plains like a wounded Banshee, clogging your headlights and windshield wipers with snow, leaving you breathlessly gripping the steering wheel, you can't help but think, "Good Lord, how far IS it to the next town?"

It's been with me since I can remember, and most of my relatives live somewhere in the Southwest. I lived in ABQ 5 yrs, and nothing to me beats a dry climate. Have had thoughts of returning there, but I'm not so sure it has to be that far west - hence the panhandle: close to family, close to friends.

Default Most of my people live somewhere...

in the Southwest.
Not sure how it would do a single person over someone married in a small town, and I still wonder about jobs. Might just mean a couple-more trips out there to get a better feel.

My sister and her husband's family live in Woodward. I know she would much rather live in the city (we've always grown up in busy suburbs) but they stay for family. She has a well paying job w/ an ATT store. She is always commenting on how much Woodward is growing, especially the Hispanic population working the oilfields. There is also a lot of revenue coming in from wind farms. A family member has one on their land and makes enough every month from it to pay their mortgage!

I've been out there once and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I was actually jealous of their foot+ of snow they got last winter.
