Hi,
My husband and I are thinking about a move to Grove in order to be near a lake, as well as my daughter in Stillwater. A realtor I spoke with told me Grove was 25 min. from Tulsa, but Mapquest says 1.5 hours. Can someone tell me the true driving distance to Tulsa?

I am concerned with access to all types of doctors and good hospitals as we age. I know Grove is getting/or has a new hospital, but do they also have specialists such as: urologists, oncologists, obgyns, etc.?

Finally, I've read on these forums about insects and the use of exterminating quarterly, but I can't really find any other negatives about the area. Is there anything else you feel someone considering relocation should be aware of? How about restaurants, clothes shopping, access to plumbers, electricians, cell phone service, and fast internet?

Thanks for all your help,
Staci in CT

Grove is 1 1/2 hours from Tulsa. Good docs in the area, the new hospital is now open. You have to remember Grove is one of the best retirement areas in the country, as such the health care for the elderly is pretty good as a result. There is even a restaurant in Grove called Drakes that prepares the most bland food you would ever want! I wondered why the one time I ate there I was the youngest person by a large margin!

Bugs, yea their a problem if you get right on the water, but there are good remedies. Research bug be gone systems. They install them around the lake and they work extremely well, well worth the investment. Choice of restaurants is lacking in the Grove area, but it depends on what you are looking for. It has the typical fast food, plus a good BBQ place called Rib Crib, good mexican restaurant called La Casita, Lupe's isn't too bad either. No clothes shopping, you would have to go to Joplin or Tulsa for that. We seem to have issues getting decent handy man type people to do any work around the lake, but there are good plumbers and electricians and H/A companies you can rely on. Cell phone reception is decent, depending on who your carrier is and I'm not sure who handles cable service in Grove, but I think it's Suddenlink. I have suddenlink at my house in Stillwater where my son lives and I've not been too impressed with them, maybe they are better in the Grove area.

BTW, you will absolutely love the Grove area and especially around the lake, and even better if you can afford to buy waterfront, nothing better!

Here is the local lake paper that you might find helpful and some other web sites:

I wake up to this every morning!

We just came back from a house hunting trip to Grove. We loved the town and the restaurants, Catfish JOhn's, Baums, and a bunch of others, much better food choices than the town in Illinois where we are now. Lots of antique shops, consignment shops, casinos. Guess you have to buy your clothes at WalMart. We bought a house on Grand Lake, got to be the most beautiful lake, spectacular. Lake front property is expensive, but in the town of Grove there are lots of very low priced nice nice homes. The new hospital just opened; here is the link INTEGRIS Health: INTEGRIS Home

Thanks so much for responding.
Briansgi - that is some gorgeous picture; how fortunate you are to live there!
Bugqueen - I already buy my clothes from Walmart or online, so it sounds like the perfect place for me!

I appreciate all the insights,
Staci
