For a family vacation we are thinking of camping at Lake Eufaula on our way to Tulsa this summer. It has been many (20 +/-) years since I was at lake Eufaula and was wondering what the best camping areas are.

We will have our kids with us and will be in a tent. I have done a bit of research and came up with 3 possible areas but wanted to get anyone else's opinion that has been there more recently. I would prefer to have a site on the lake if available.

Possible Areas: Damsite South, Highway 9 North, and Porum Landing.

I picked these areas for having a playground and designated swimming areas as well as electric, restrooms and showers. The electric is not mandatory but an added bonus.

My biggest requirement at this point would be a campsite on the lake. I can go camping in the trees on my property so that does not interest me. I want the ability to swim or fish within site of the tent.

Thank you for any recommendations.

I haven't spent any time at dam site south but I have camped at Porum Landing and have been through the campground at Hwy 9 North a couple of times. Either of the latter two would be good from what I have seen and experienced. I might be a little more partial to Porum landing since it is a neck of the lake that has a little more protection from the wind if you are taking a boat along and the water has always been "clear".

I have camped at all three, and all three are pretty good places. My own personal preference is Dam Site South..they have some camping right on the waterfront, and some real close to it under pine trees with bathrooms with showers nearby, and there are places to pitch a tent on most of the campsites..some are for "primitive camping" but I prefer the ones near the "beach" such as it is, which is not really sandy but a good area for swimming. If you want the best "beach" with sand to lay out at and swim in, that would be the hwy 9 campsite. That one of course is the closest to convienience stores, the one at dam site south has a store not too far, and the one at Porum Landing is the one you would have to drive a little distance for if you forget something and need to make a run to the store.
