My husband and I are looking at moving to OK in October. I am needing some advice on what towns to look at.

We are looking at buying a home in the range of 80,000 3+ bedrooms. Don't mind a little fixer upper. We would like to have an acreage. We want kids soon so a nice school system would be nice. We would like to be close to a city but not to close. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks!

Will you be looking for employment? If there is a specific field you will be looking for, that might help us suggest an area for you.

Guthrie Kid's suggestion is a good one. It's a very nice place and there are lots of rural areas around it yet is close enough to OKC that plenty of people commute.

We will be looking @ employment but nothing specific. I work at a call center and hubby works at a retail store. So nothing major or anything.

Thanks Guthrie Kid for the suggestion!

There are several call centers in the Tulsa area and they are desperate for employees. If you don't mind a commute, you can find housing like that in that price range in the areas around Cleveland, Kellyville, Bristow, Beggs, Morris, Prue, Mounds, Liberty..........I didn't put them in any particular order......just as I thought of them.

I just ran a search on the Tulsa MLS of single family stick built houses (no manufactured homes) on under $80,000 on a minimum of 5 acres. The range of prices run from $29,000 to $79,000 with sizes ranging from 720 sf to 1596 sf. The towns include Bristow, Foyil, Olive, Hominy, Cleveland, Henryetta, Hulbert, Peggs, Tenkiller/Keys, Adair, Locust Grove, Wickliffe, and Gore.

There are also several call centers located in OKC. A new one was announced yesterday. It is a division of Xerox, Affiliated Computer Services. According to an article in todays paper, they are planning on hiring 500 people by December. It will be located in an old Xerox plant, on the west side of town.

Enid has a couple of call centers. We're an hour and a half from okc, and 2 hours from tulsa. We're the biggest "town" in NW Oklahoma. Good medical care, decent neighborhoods, we just passed a huge bond issue for the schools, which are steadily improving. Check out www.enid.org for more info.

As a product of the Guthrie school system, I can tell you that they are not the greatest schools, however you will get more for your money when it comes to property there. The schools are not horrible, they are a lot better than OKC's school district, but I can tell you when I moved my sophmore year to another smaller school that I was in for a shock as the amount of work I actually had to put into going to school.....lol. I rarely had homework at Guthrie (I was an honor student) and I rarely had to study (except for math which was a weak subject for me). If I would have not moved away for my last two years, I don't know that I would have been very prepared for college.....these are just my two cents of course, and I actually as a whole really like Guthrie, just that if schools are a top priority for you I would look around Edmond/Arcadia, Harrah, Jones, Choctaw, Deer Creek, Cashion and Piedmont areas.

YES! Do look for what is for sale that may suit you along hiway 105 east of Guthrie. It's very beautiful ranch land with so many trees.
