maybe Mona McGregor and Penny Sophir from the ops school board could apply to be bus drivers.

both of them will be jobless in a few months.

OPS is a joke. I'm glad to know that my kids won't ever attend an OPS school. No negative comments necessary from people that disagree. I know that everyone has to do what they gotta do. That's just the way it goes. I feel for you though!

I am a proud Omaha North high grad and I agree OPS has become a joke.

when it comes to football and academics, it seems it is only North and Burke that put any effort nowadays into succeeding.

superintendent John Mackiel

and ops board members Jensen and Huston and Drickey (all of whom are up in 2012) have been around for too long and it is time for some new faces and ideas for OPS.

speaking of OPS

ops students start going back to school next week

(and lets hope Omaha Central and Omaha Benson will finally this year have a backbone to deal with their trauncy epidemic at their schools)

Omaha Central High and Omaha Benson high kids should not be at the libraries or the mall or elsewhere during the school day.

I say cut out the buses altogether. Send students to their local schools so they can walk or ride a bicycle to school. It would save a TON of money.

you make a good point. if only some schools in north and south omaha were better, people would do that.

I say make the parents who have a car but not working drive their kids to school for free. this handout mentality is killing this city finacially

My kids go to an elementary school that is about 2 miles away. And they're too young to ride bikes to school. As for my wife or I driving? The last thing that school wants is yet more cars trying to drop off or pick up their kid there. It just isn't set up to do it. It sounds like a novel idea...but it just wouldn't work.

OPS could just implement forced bussing again to spur demand.

I have to pay over $5000 a year in property taxes, which a big percentage goes to the school. I think they schools need to provide buses for the kids, two miles is too far to walk in the rain and cold and snow, especially during the winter months.
