I ride Route 2 Downtown from 76th to go to the cigar shop in the Old Market every now and then, and I don't mind walking the four blocks to get there from 13 & Douglas. I've gotten around to thinking, however, that it would be a lot nicer for the bus to actually serve the Old Market. By that, I mean, serving the main streets around the Old Market, including 10th, Jackson, 13th and Harney. I think that would give more incentive for people that haven't given the bus a try, to go ahead and take it downtown as their mode of trasportation for their night out on the town. It would sure beat driving around for 15 minutes, trying to find a parking spot that isn't even that close to where they want to be. MAT needs to get with the picture. If you're not serving one of the busiest places on at least Friday and Saturday nights, you're missing out on a whole lot of revenue. Even if just one route, like Route 2 served the Old Market, I, and I'm sure many other people would be much more pleased with the service.

If MAT increased the amount of time it stayed out on just Friday and Saturday nights (at least 1:00 a.m) and served the Old market with even just Route 2, I would see them as moving far foreward in the quality of their service.

It would be a very cheap change for them to make that would help them out a lot. Things I'd like to see them do in the downtown area for Friday and Saturday night are:

Route 2: extend to make loop around the Old Market/ Stay out later

Route 4: extend on Cuming to 10th, to pass the Qwest Center and make the loop around the Old Market/ Stay out later/ More frequent service

Route 11: extend east on Leavenworth to 13th, to Douglas to Pedestrian Bridge, turn around to serve 10th/Jackson, then to howard then west on normal route. Stay out later/more fruquent service.

Route 13: extend north on 13th to Harney to make loop around Old Market, back to 13th and south on regular route/ Stay out longer/ More frequent service.

Route 15: Turn south at 10th to make loop around Old Market, then north on 10th from Harney to turn left at Farnam and Continue on regular route. Stay out later.

Route 41/42: Turn south at 10th to make loop around Old market, north on 10th from Harney, then right at Douglas to continue on regular route. Stay out later.

I wonder if "Metro" could make this happen.
