There is an on-line survey for this, and 3 public meetings have been done Jan-March.

We have to be careful more harm than good occurs.

#24 will be straight north/south along 24th, unless the map shown lacks adequate detail. It may put an end to route 9, which persons utilize to VA Medical Center.

One unfortunate trend I have seen is what appears to be intentional downgrading, and then elimination. Best example was around 1992. The old route 20 running north/south in W.Omaha was heavily used all day. It was suddenly rduced to rush hour only, and some of the remaining trips were quietly removed. Soon, no more #20 "... due to lack of ridership. " !

How many remember that awful major proposal around year 2000: Neighborhood feeder mini-buses to several transfer centers. All new 3-digit route numbers. Trying to keep such a system on-schedule is likely what caused such an uproar, resulting in complete abandonment of fiasco.

Only remnant of that is the lingering question about how to route all the buses in downtown area. It looks so difficult for a viable solution.

That is the question. By changing the 24 are we going to help more people? They would somehow have to find out how many people are traveling downtown on the 24 for the sole purpose of transfering to the 7 or the 9. And how many of those people use the 7 or 9 to access 24th street only.

I personally think that if they make the 24 crosstown, the 9 and 7 would be combined. It would be regular route 7 until 24th, and then it would follow route 9 to V.A.

Then the portion of the 7 that is currently south of Metro College TC would become a neighborhood circulator like what the 17 was before it was removed.

Or ideally the 24 would change and nothing else would! But we all know that would never happen.

By the way, what street did the 20 serve? I've never heard of it.

The system we currently have is so different than the one we had when I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories riding bus routes that no longer exist. It may be just a bias, but I feel like we had better service when there were buses like the 9, 17, 36 and 24 that used to go from downtown to about 45 minutes out without necessarily serving or terminating at a transit center.

I hear there used to be a 72 that ran straight up 72nd all the way from immanuel to somewhere down south. Now you would have to ride three different routes to get that done.

If you have any other memories of routes that don't exist anymore, please share them, I'm really interested in the topic.

The results of the survey are in. Only 200 responses. 30 percent were people who regularly use the bus.

The majority of people are in favor of reducing route deviations and are willing to walk a few extra blocks to access a more direct route.

More people would rather have main lines run later and more often over having extra routes serve new areas.

What are the odds that they actually add new routes to currently un-serviced areas?

pretty much

Curt Simon it seems has no interest in expaning bus service or making it better in omaha.

Hell will freeze over before non express bus service is allowed in Sarpy County or West of 120th street (excluding 15 and 55 routes)

Announcements - Proposed Transit Improvements - Omaha Metro

Here's some great infor for you. These are just proposals now that have to go through community forums and may change.

They propose removing the 22 and covering parts of the 22 with the 14.

and the rumor of the 18 to stop running to Bergan Mercy on sundays (i.e. the 18 only will go to Crossroads Mall like it does monday-staturday
