That problem will end once population densities increase. Northwest Omaha is about the lowest density area in the city. It's only just over the 1200 people per square mile mark. You're just not going to get service out that far with that few people. Service needs to improve, yes, but once you get outside of the interstate loop densities drop off like a rock.

Just as I was going to say. Population density out there makes it hard to support a bus route, add that up with the hostility toward buses out there, and you have an area that will not likely use a bus if it were to go out there. Now that I've thought of it, a better route than the 64 I made up (Westroads to Elkhorn) would be something that goes from North Omaha to Northwest Omaha. People in North Omaha may work out in Northwest Omaha and have to go there, and north Omaha would be a better transfer point for those people than Westroads would be.

If anyone's interested, I just learned Metro bought nine 2011 buses of a different manufacturer than before. They are very attractive and look new even compared to the 24 buses we got last year and I can't wait for them to hit the streets, and let me know if anybody sees them out.

side note:

who ever put the transfer point signs at 16th and farnam downtown got the 5 and 55 routes mixed up.

it says the 5 and 15 meet there. it is actually the 15/55 that meet there.

the 5 dont go downtown at all (and dont run on sundays for some strange reason)

Nooo! If there's one thing I know Omaha residents don't want it's Bust Rapid Transit!(BRT) Wow I sure hope this study doesn't indicate this as the best option, but many times, that's what studies show because they are by far the most cost effective option, but for the citizens using it, it is the least attractive. Why do so many cities considering light rail lately go for BRT? Yeah they're much cheaper up front but after 30 years, what's all the fuel and bus maintainence going to add up to? Cities are way too concerned with up front gratification and saving a little money. I doubt streetcars will show much promise. In a rapid transit study they aren't even going to raise a brow because they aren't meant to move fast. Phew, man, I hope this study doesn't kill any chances of good transit in Midtown.
