Because people want something to b*tch about. Bottom line. They think they have good reasons for this that and the other, but when it comes down to it, they really don't know why they don't want CVS to go there. Just like someone else said, they prolly all drink Starbucks and talk about how righteous they are for hating CVS. Get over yourselves, protesters.

Agreed Happy.

Its the ability to choose which creates the benefit to consumers as it creates competition and drives prices down.

I would also add that while these protesters may be against this and make the claim that the "community has spoken," this is not likely the case. Listen, these business come in to make money. Period. If the community as a whole was realy against them then they wouldnt' come in. But apparently their market research doesn't suggest that. The reality is more people than not want them to come in. The same argument applies to all the targets and wal-marts. If no one really wanted them to come in then they wouldn't. The truth is people like these stores. They just don't necessary like them right next to their back yard.

Why are these hippies so passionate about "preserving" Dundee? Last I checked, Dundee is kind of dumpy and not really worth preserving. I could understand if they were fighting to preserve something worth it...but this? Hmm.

leftist hypocrites

look, it is one thing if youre against cvs being built at 49th and dodge (and I have mixed feelings on this)

but if youre against cvs cause you are some leftist anti-corporation type, than I think youre pathetic and need to get a life and stop hating on captalism.

btw, there are wackjobs who think it should also be all local businesses in benson area also. (they hate Subway and Walgreens and Bucky's and soon CVS being in the benson area)

how is Maple street doing btw near 60th street.

at least a third of the places are empty on maple street between 60th and 72nd.

Seriously man, I like you and all, but can you stop dragging politics into every post you see? I highly doubt you're able to just look at people and determine their political leanings.

I think it's less about CVS and more about CVS' attitude. The apparent consensus from Dundee residents has more or less been that they're OK with CVS moving in, as long as CVS conforms to the neighborhood, I.E...street front design with the parking lot hidden from view. CVS is certainly capable of this as they have many stores in other parts of the country that already fit this description, however they've seemed to thumb their noses and doing the same in Dundee and now they've even gone as far as to hold up developments outside Dundee as a seemingly retaliatory action. That has, understandably, pissed off the Dundee residents even further.

CVS has essentially acted like a big bully and now the residents of Dundee don't want them there at all. This probably all could have been avoided had CVS been more willing to work with Dundee, but at this point, I think the situation is past the point of no return.

I guess the part I must have missed in all of this is how can they take a spot where businesses are already? Is this an eminent domain thing? Second. Has CVS looked at the fact you can't make a left on eastbound Dodge?

actually, you can turn left if you are going to a business. I'm sure CVS doesn't care that it's entirely dangerous and congesting.

I don't think that is true, the signs say NO LEFT TURN, they do not have anything else saying you can if it is an business or not.

Needless to say thousands of criminals make left turns off of Dodge street a week. This is not going to any different from what is already happening.

The City could pay all it's short falls if it would only enforce the left turn law.

So my first question remains. . Is the CVS supposed to go into a spot with existing businesses? If so how are they forcing those businesses to leave? Is it the eminent domain thing? Are the busineses getting paid off? I'm just not sure if they are slapping it right on the corner, or if it's going behind the existing businesses?

I also feel it necessary to mention that everything on Saddle Creek has limited time. If UNMC has it's way and eventually it will, they will own all of that land and Saddle Creek and the businesses along it will be gone. I wouldn't move my business into that flood plain if you paid me. Insurance will rob you blind to be there.

Not a huge fan of a box store going in there but most things would be an improvment to the ugly buildings that currently sit on that block. I hope they at least make it look like it blends in with dundee, maybe using brick.

CVS bought the land.
