The Nighthawks had not been confirmed at the time of the debate of building it. Even so...that's what? 4 more games a year? Maybe a playoff game or two? Let's be generous and say 6 more days....that gives us 21 days a year it's used.

They were hoping Creighton would use it...but it wasn't a done deal.

#2, We could have have secured the cws but for how long? With the new stadium we secured the cws for 25 YEARS! Also rosenblatt was getting a bit old and we could have lost the cws in the future to another city without the new stadium!
10 years was guaranteed with a renovation, from what I heard. I imagine another renovation was going to be done in 10 years. The Nighthawks could stay at Rosenblatt, and heck...Creighton could have played there, as well.

No ****. It apparently didn't matter to them when Rosenblatt, was only getting used for a couple weeks and whatever days anyone actually showed up to the Royals games, but now it's a big deal?

Right. Sour ****ing grapes.

TDA Park is a big reason the Nighthawks are in Omaha now.

They don't want to go to the downtown library because of all the hobos, panhandlers, and thugs. The question is, do we want our downtown space to be one of affluent people or one of the need-based society??

Downtown is getting better, but we just have to convince the open door mission to stop using the library as a day shelter. Start dropping these homeless people off at temp employment agencies. Perhaps kick them out of the shelters after a set amount of time. I know MANY that have been in the shelter for over 5 years. That's not homeless, that's a freeloader!

The Nighthawks are playing in the turd right now, aren't they? Must not be too bad. Yah...it's an older stadium, but so what? The Huskers play in a pretty old stadium that still serves their purpose pretty well.

How long until TDA will "need" to be renovated?

That is only because TDA Park wasn't going to be completed by the time the UFL expansion was done.

And Memorial Stadium is also home to a Top 10 college football team and maintained like it.

You probably see minor renovations every 10 years with more major work being every 20 years.

Agree 100%. The freeloader mentality is why you can't go downtown without getting asked for money. When I came here, I moved directly to downtown, but after getting asked for money every day, I moved West and hardly ever go back downtown, only when necessary. I'm sure I'm not alone in this thinking.

Central High School also needs to quit emabling their traunt students to use the downtown library as day shelter.

Central High needs to reign in their school's trauncy problem.

downtown 's library is over-run by folks skipping school from Omaha Central High or are folks from Open Door Mission using it as a day shelter

that is why I avoid that library like the plague

Mayor's budget cuts could mean library closings - Omaha.com

quote:

Chittenden said closing the Swanson branch would be the least disruptive option for the library system.

That's because the branch could move to a redeveloped Crossroads Mall site by 2015, assuming money is available for both the mall and library projects.

Residents could use the Abrahams or Millard branches in the meantime, he said, since many Swanson branch customers have cars.
