Being a chef, a year ago when I moved to Omaha i was thrilled to try a plethra of new restaurants. So far my favorites have been Blue Sushi, La Casa Pizzaria, Brewburgers, El Dorado (on south 24th), actually pretty much all the mexican restaurants on 24th between L and Q, and the Flat Iron Cafe.

I was NOT impressed by the majority of restaurants I have dined at, such as Zio's pizza, Stokes southwest, and (most disappointing of all) The Zin Room. I want to like Harkert's bbq because it's old and family owned and about 4 minutes from my house, but they just use waaay too much sauce.

All in all, the food scene in Omaha is very impressive.

I need to try some of the restaurants y'all have mentioned, particularily Lo Sole Mio and McFoster's.

My vote: Zum Biergarten, Fort Crook Rd., Bellevue. Fabulous German food!

Excellent thread idea, Billie!

My personal favorite would have had to be the now closed Mister. C's. The food and atmosphere was excellent, and I was especially fond of their spaghetti sauce. I will always miss that place. Venice Inn and Johnny's Cafe are pretty close, and probably my favorite local places.

I want to get to the Drover sometime and try their Omaha Strip Steak. That looks so good.

Wish I could find a good pizza place in Omaha, but Zios is probably my favorite.

If you haven't already, try Pitch in Dundee, Dante's in West Omaha, and/or Mangia Italiana in Irvington. All three are very good and better than Zio's in my opinion.

Definitely Dante's. Mmmm... speaking of Dante's, a new Brazilian place just opened in Legacy in the old Fuddrucker's spot.

My favorites: Wasabi Sushi, Blue Sushi (I have a thing for Sushi) Dante's, Shuck's, Kobe, Grand Fortune, Bobo China, Trini's, and... hmm... I may have to think some more. Oh! Annie's Cafe too.
