Hi all, I'm very new to this forum and find some great info here! Need some honest help/opinions. I was born and raised in West Texas and me and my wife are possibly moving to Omaha NE for a job. Thing is I am Asian; born and raised west Texan and my wife is Caucasian; born and raised Texan. We live in a town of about 115,000 and don't have a problem with the fact that we are an interracial couple. Most people who talk to me on the phone wouldn't know I was Asian if they hadn't seen my name. Anyway, we are looking for a safe area in/around Omaha, rental because we do not know the area. How is interracial marriage viewed in the area what areas to stay away from etc. I know these are very generalized questions but any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You will have NO problems being an interracial couple here in Omaha. North Omaha is mostly African American, South Omaha is more hispanic, West Omaha and Sarpy county are mostly white. All of the other areas are quite diverse. Someone will chime in soon with a better idea of specific neighborhoods.

Are more you akin to having a unique, old house? Or do you prefer a cookie cutter clean suburban home?

Thanks for the info Busguy2010! I know that prejudice about interracial marriage can happen anywhere, we just want to hear from the local point of view and be sure we make the right choice in area to live. Me and my wife have done some house flipping here so we like all types of houses, our real loves are tudor style homes, lots of trees, quite and safe enough neighborhood to walk our dogs if we wanted to.

The Country Club, Morton Meadows and Dundee-Happy Hollow / Memorial Park neighborhoods all have lots of historic tudor-revival style homes.

Yeah it sounds like you'd like Dundee type of houses You will have no problems with being interracial, i've never heard of anyone experiencing those type of issues in Omaha.

If you want to know how diverse (or non-diverse) a location in Omaha is, just go to greatschools.org. Search for the High School or Elementary School for that location, and click on "Students". It gives you a pie chart of the Student Ethnicity. For example, Dundee Elementary is listed as 66% White, 18% Black, 13% Hispanic, 3% Asian/Pacific Islander. I'm not saying any particular percentage is good or bad...just sayin' this might help you find a more diverse location, if that is what you are looking for.

Don't have much to add here as it seems your questions have been pretty well answered so far, but just wanted to say good luck with the move if you end up in Omaha. It's a great city for most people.

This can not be. People born and raised in Texas are not Asian or Caucasian or anything but they are TEXANS
