So I signed up with these bandits in the spring of 2012, sold my place in August. Sent a written letter of cancellation requesting a refund of prepaid services, got NOTHING. They called twice after that, including the lawn guy who was at my old place, talking to the new owner, and asking me what the deal was. So one letter and two direct contacts instigated by them--can I get a refund? Hell no! They promise it, then it never happens.

Today I get a letter wanting me to prepay for next year--on the place I sold last August.

ANybody else know anything about these people?

The BBB has them listed as an a+ member, though they do have a fair number of complaints. Many complaints seem to center around billing.

Also it's trugreen. Made it just a little harder to find with the wrong name.

If you think you have been wronged, I'd file a complaint with the bbb.

I know nothing about your local TruGreen company, but I do know that the BBB is an absolutely worthless organization. As long as a "member" pays their dues, it's almost impossible for said member to lose their A+ rating. The BBB ain't what it used to be!

Actually I'm going to disagree. I filed a complaint with the BBB about Bank of America (did not close my account when I asked them to, fees to the tune of ~100 occurred) A few days later, BoA "executive" called me to discuss the situation and fixed it. When I contacted BoA initially, i just got bull customer service runaround, and it was at that point I filed the complaint.

So clearly something works with BBB.

And BoA's "rating" with the BBB remained and A+++++. They screw people over, but pay enough money to the BBB to be called "awesome."

They fixed the problem, their rating should remain. That's what they are there for. Unless you can prove they "screw people over" it's just opinion and not fact.

Aaahhhh... Interesting take.

My personal experience is this. It will prove nothing to you, but that's fine. You're welcome to think the best of BBB.

I disputed a bill that came from a plumber who did not finish a job he was doing, and the workmanship of what he had done was horrible. I decided to check in to the BBB, since this plumber had that coveted A+ rating (in other words, he had paid his membership dues).

In order to go through BBB arbitration, you have to waive your right to any further action - including legal action. Then a BBB representative sits and listens to both parties, and makes a decision. Said decision is not legally binding, and cannot legally compel anybody to do anything. In other words, the arbitration is worthless.

According to the BBB representative, the only way a company can lose its coveted A+ rating, is if a complainant goes through BBB arbitration, and the company loses. But only a fool would be stupid enough to think that a BBB arbitrator is going to decide AGAINST a company that is paying their annual dues, in favor of an individual who does not pay dues.

THIS is one example of why the BBB is a joke, and why it is on the verge of non-existence. The fact that a business has an A+ rating from the BBB means absolutely nothing, and intelligent people know it.

Now, Mister Bold... Prove me wrong.

You're the one making a claim. The burden of proof is on you to prove it, not on me to disprove it. Till you can prove there is a problem with the BBB I see no reaon to take your comment as fact. It is however one I'll keep in mind and not 100% disregard.

Hahaha - okay. As I already mentioned, it's obvious that you're a completely closed-minded know-it-all. Just don't be surprised when some company with a A+ rating from the BBB absolutely screws you over.
