I doubt the female demographic in Jerram's district was that offended. The shirt wasn't a dig at women, it was a dig at Jean Stothert, and Jerram simply posed with it.

He should be fine.

These posts always make me chuckle. Anyone remember what happened the last time we had a mayor who "wasn't in the union's pockets"? That was Mike Fahey, and his refusal to agree to reasonable wage increases got us the pension spiking fiasco. Suttle...the guy who everyone loves to claim is a wonk for the unions...got the greatest contract concessions out the police union in basically forever and had a similar deal worked out with the fire union before a Stothert led City Council killed the deal and cost us a bunch more money in the process.

Maybe it's more about being smart and reasonable rather than the status of the relations between the two entities.

One word would would help this.

Transparency.

The Public has the belief that the unions get the favor of the mayor.

The raises for his staff for one, you remember, the ones that he did not have in the budget but gave anyway?

Rather than be forthcoming to the council about his intent, he did it anyway. Then the council did not approve those for 2013, so they raises went away.

I fail to see what was not transparent about the raises. Was the information not put out there publicly like all other budget information is?

What if it's an anti-union pressure group? That'd be cool with you, right?

anti-union groups dont have the influence like the unions do, so dont compare apples and oranges

Those raises were not in the 2012 budget, yet he gave them anyway. Hence the problem.

They were in the 2013 budget, if I'm not mistaken.
