The old Lerner building has added 3 more floors for apartments.

Developer opts to 'go vertical,' adds 3 stories to create more downtown housing - Omaha.com

I have always thought that building would be a good place for a small supermarket. Perhaps even a multi level store. Downtown still does not have a real grocery store and with this building being so central in downtown it's ideal and walkable to almost everyone.

Would be cool, but this building is past that point. I am pretty sure it will only have 4k SF or retail space, not close to enough for a grocer.

Whatever happened to the WalMart "mini grocery store" they were talking about building down in the Old Market area?

Pretty sure that was nothing more than a brainstorm.

Sad as that would have been nice. Would have upset the hippies though.

HyVee is building a store in downtown Des Moines. If it's successful, maybe they will build a similar one in downtown Omaha.

I would rather see a HyVee in the Old Market than a WalMart. I know it's kind of a stereotype, but WalMart tends to make you think "trashy."

HyVee makes me think "white". If we were to get a big name grocery store downtown, I'd rather it be a Bakers, a store with more of an east Omaha presence than HyVee.

I genuinely cannot believe that is an issue people have with Hy-Vee...

Baker's is a poorly run chain, Hy-Vee is the industry standard for the region. Give me Hy-Vee any day.
