A good friend once told me, "It's not where you are that matters, it's what you do with the people you're with that does."

Sound advice, IMO.

Wink Omaha

I agree with slipstream as well, however, coming from a small town and doing the same ol' same ol' tends to get boring no matter who you are with. My husband and I are together all the time and we very much enjoy one another's company, however, we also enjoy culture and diversity which cannot always be found in a small town.

MarriedWithOutChildren,

You are right about not having the culture and diversity of a large city like Omaha would have in a smaller community. Nice thing to keep in mind is that you can always go to culture events and experience the diversity of a large city yet you can enjoy the quiet and security of a smaller community as well.

Kosnebbear,

As you have stated in previous posts, it all depends on the person(s) and what they enjoy. I love the city life! I enjoy seeing people of all walks of life and I live in the Regency area so I too feel secure in my neighborhood. I lived in a small town for the first 27 yrs of my life, so for now, I enjoy the noise and the crowds and all the perks the city offers. My husband and I do talk about when, or if, we have children that we may want to move to a smaller town to raise them in, but not a small town in the middle of nowhere. It would have to be near a city as I would want my child to have the best of both worlds!

Once again I have to agree with you. We once lived way out in western Nebraska and thought that it was great. Then I took a job that moved us southeast of Lincoln. We still live in a small town, but now we get to go to the State Fair every year to enjoy the shows, tractor pulls. We have gone to concerts that we would never have gone to when we lived in far west Nebraska. Our youngest son got into golf and there were more teaching golf pros in Lincoln and more golf courses to play on. The one thing that we do miss is Harlan County Lake. There just are not any real good lakes as far as we are concerned around Lincoln. So our thoughts are about the same.

Having lived in Norway, Los Angeles and Phoenix, I would say Omaha is not at all boring. Los Angeles is expensive, and in Phoenix you don't even want to go outside half the year because of the heat. My husband and I moved here three weeks ago, and now we're out running every day, something you can't do in Phoenix this time of year. We love it so far.

If you think of it, #30 is not bad, Los Angeles is only 4 places ahead at #26, and it's supposed to be the entertainment capital of the world. And Phoenix is not even on the list, even though it's 4 times as big as Omaha.
