Ha ha! You're not serious are you??

Please don't take this the wrong way, but do you think Nebraskans (or anyone for that matter) is concerned that much about you moving to their state? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but, honestly, you assume way too much.

You probably didn't get a lot of responses for two reasons. 1) This issue has been beaten to death in other threads. 2) We all know that if you want to move some place you would be insane to do it based on a few forum posts.

Further, to somehow conclude that people from Wyoming are more interesting than people from Nebraska simply because of these forum posts is kind of a silly extrapolation. Nebraska has a population of about 1.85 million people and you're basing your "interesting" assumption on a sampling of a handful of posts.

There are many many things I love about Nebraska and Omaha. But if you want to move to this state then I would suggest coming to visit for yourself.

The Omaha and Lincoln area has a rough population of 1.3 million. There are tons of jobs available and many upward opportunities. Land is cheap as is the cost of living.

Without giving what specific work you are looking for its hard to say how well you'd do. But Omaha is a much more cosmopolitan city than you probably are aware. Its the home of several fortune 500 and 100 companies and has a growing and diverse economy. It has a good night life and plenty of things to do. Right across the river is also neighboring Council Bluffs, with several very nice casinos.

Omaha was also just listed as one of the top 5 cities to "restart" in this economy.

Further, as some have mentioned, Nebraska has a much more diverse landscape than you probably know. If your exposure is limited to I-80 then you've seen nothing of Nebraska. Nebraska is filled with rolling hills, badlands, sandhills, rivers and lakes. But because people driving through on I-80, which is deliberately built in the flattest part of the state, parallel to the Platte River, most think Nebraska is an ultra flat state. I assure you...Nebraska is much much less flat than North Dakota.

Omaha (metro area approximately 900,000) offers the cosmopolitan life of the city with Lincoln (pop. ~ 275,000) only about 45 minutes away and the peaceful country side just at your doorstep. You have casinos across the bridge and a very rich and diverse downtown scene in the heart of Omaha. If sports are your thing we have often been described as the amateur sports capital. We are home to the CWS, Creighton and Husker basketball, Husker volleyball, the Omaha Royals, UNO Hockey and several other semi-pro sports teams. We hosted the 2008 Olympic swim trials and will also host the 2012 swim trials. Last, we are also home of the NU Football team.

The Qwest center is a world class event center and hosts various national and international acts.

But if you think Wyoming with the largest city being Cheyenne (pop. ~ 53,000) or N. Dakota with the largest city being Fargo (pop. ~ 90,000) is more interesting than Nebraska then that's cool.

I'm a Wyomingite and long to live in NE...the grass is greener there - it's brown here...lol. Naw, I'm kidding, we've had gobs of rain - thankfully. I've been following both posts and Wyoming has responded more. I think Matt has a point that the post has been beaten to death - more so in NE forum than WY.

Doing state to state comparisons shows me that NE rates #1 nationally in satisfaction & happiness. NE rates #7 in health where WY rates #30. There is a reason WY's population is low - it can be tough to live here - elements, isolation, social divisions - be it religion, politics, small population etc. Our suicide rate is high. I generally don't think racism is an issue because so much of the population where I'm at is white, and that's just how it is for some reason...however I've noticed that some of my NE husband's relatives are very racist and that troubles me.

I'm probably getting off topic now...sorry about that.

I want to point out that I have nothing against Wyoming or ND. I just wanted to point out that Nebraska has tons to offer and one should not use a few forum posts to conclude Wyoming is more interesting. That's all.

Well, unlike those other forums, we are a divided one, Omaha has its own seperate from Nebraska, and a lot of people only view the Omaha forums.

I do think you would do well here, you are quite welcome.

I think Omaha would be the place for you, but leave this " Guys, believe me, if there are genuine work opportunities there and a low cost of living, I don't care if you guys spend all your free time munching hay sandwiches, playing crash-car derby, and trying to endlessly recreate "Leave It To Beaver" family life on the high plains!" behind!
There are enough people who think everyone from Nebraska is a hayseed redneck. If that's truly what you think of us, out-state NE is not for you.

Not Omaha. In some respects it's more wild and "liberal" than the California I've grown up in.

Great news!!

How are the cornhuskers and cops as far as marijuana tolerance?? (Not for me, of course. I have a retarded pet gnome who follows me everywhere and has a legal medical-marijuana certificate. He likes nothing better than to whip out his miniature crystal bowl and take a puff. Then he rubs his little pipe really fast, hoots and hollers, and after a while some thick white smoke comes out!)

I see there are no Bikram Yoga studios anywhere in Nebraska.

BTW, anyone know how the Omaha-Lincoln area is for mountain biking or road cycling?

I get the insane cold part and I can handle that.

HEAT. Now I do like that, although I start to wilt with anything >100 dF.

Has this July been unusually cool for Nebraska? (It has been in a lot of states.)

What do you call insane heat?? I've been watching Omaha weather for a few months and you guys haven't even had one or two days >90 dF !

I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE OMAHA AREA IS FAIRLY HUMID, but not terribly so (unlike here in Rhode Island aka The World's Steamy Swamp).

I found the answer myself. Seems there are more than a few road cyclists in the Omaha area.

Here's how you figure out if a place has a decent running, cycling, and mountain biking scene:

Go to MapMyRide.com - Map your Cycling and Mountain Biking Routes and join our Community of Cyclists. Cycling Social Network, iPhone, Topo Maps, Elevation Profiles, GPS Support.. Do a search for "rides" in a specific city or town you are curious about. See how many jogging routes and bike rides are listed and check 'em out.

Based on the number of "rides" listed, you can gauge what places have some kind of burgeoning athletic culture and which don't.

Here in Rhode Island, sports is when you drop the remote behind the couch and you have to pull the couch out and then bend over and down to reach for the remote and pick it up. Other than that, there is baseball. Baseball=Not my favorite sport!
