Actually Omaha's commitment to the downtown stadium and CWS is what allows for a more robust city budget.

There are a million reasons why the budget has a shortfall, maybe we should thank some of them instead?

Are we actually even spending any money on the stadium yet? Isn't it being paid for mostly with bonds like the Qwest Center?

Nothing substantial which would have impacted the budget as of yet. Of couse there are always costs associated with the process of approving the stadium...but nothing that would close a library I doubt.

I am surprised they didnt close the elkhorn library

I am only saying that cause the city of Omaha and MAT bus system believes it is illegal to have a bus route for elkhorn and west omaha areas

I am suprised the city didnt say to Elkhorn, No library for you either.

considering the new stadium will only be used 2 weeks a year,

I dont know if any money has been spent on un-voted for new stadium

It be decades before it makes a profit for the city, if at all.

Decades? I highly doubt that. Let's take the naming right exclusively for arguments sake. TDAmeritrade has agreed to pay 20million for 20 years to have their name on that stadium. (total of 400million) Total cost of new stadium = 120million. Yearly gross CWS revenues = apprx 40million. (Total of 800 million) Naming rights + CWS revenues = 1.2billion in two decades.

I'm not a financial expert, but I would guess we could turn a profit before then... even with a clinically retarded administration.

You do know it's possible to turn profit while holding debt right?

Did you know because MECA controls the stadium that it could be used for outdoor concerts? Beach Volleyball? There are many uses that the city is looking at using the stadium for. How about an ice skating rink in the winter?

They were talking about having an outdoor hockey game, similar to the NHL game they did outside recently. I think that would be a great way to better utilize the stadium, so that it just isn't used for two weeks out of the year.

I hope youre right cause that stadium should be used every week
