There are 2 pretty good amusement parks within a 3 hour drive from Omaha, I could not afford to take my family more then once a year anyways. As a kid we would always go to worlds of Fun in a day trip and go to Six Flags in St Louis or Great America in Chicago for a weekend trip. For a family of 4 it is easily over $100 before food, so going more then once a year would be tough for most families.

And that is why I don't know why they removed the only two places that were fun for kids (Peony Park and Merritts Beach).. I heard rumors that the insurance was getting too high for the owners after a couple of accidents.

Anyway, I am sure that we won't be making many trips to six flags either since all our money is spent on baseball/football for our boys. And that is why I really liked and miss Spokane Washington. It was a medium sized city with lots to do within about and hours drive...

What do kids do in Omaha anyway, just curious?

Hmmmmm you really don't have a clue about Omaha.

The ONLY two places fun for kids.

My son will laugh when I tell him this.

Well then clue me in because we will be making a trip to Omaha next summer for the baseball World Series. I have an 11-year old and a 15-year old and will need things to do when they aren't playing baseball.

My brother who lives in Omaha doesn't have kids so his only suggestion is the zoo.

The Zoo is a classic and even tho my 13 old had been there many times, he still wants to go.

Boulder Creek Amusement Park

Omaha Children's Museum

Jazz on the Green (done for the season)

There is more but I want to point out that kids fun is usually in direct response to the parents mood.

The zoo for example, even when kids have been there many times if the parent is going to slow or just at a different pace then the kids it becomes a place where the parent is giving orders again.
Instead a wide open place to run or sit and see all the wonders of the zoo.

I live in a small town now with even less to do. The way to ensure my son has a good time is to evolve him in the planning and put him in charge of some of it. It is not always about the place or how much money you do or don't spend.

If you can't find something fun for your kids in the city the size of Omaha I suspect there are other problems stifling your fun.
Kids didn't want to come to Omaha so nothing will be fun.
Over controlling parent which makes everything boring.
Lack of imagination in the kids and or the parent.
etc etc

A few things for the kids to do; fishing at a local lake, hiking in Fontenelle Forest, going to the I-max, family fun center, swiming/boating, SAC museum, wildlife safari, shopping at a mall or the old market, bowling, Western Heritage museum, going to the slides at the Gene Lehey Mall, etc, etc.

Anybody know how long those slides have been there?

I remember taking our kids there when they were little, and we were visiting from Minnesota. That was well over 20 years ago.

I'm pretty sure they were installed when the Mall was built, which was the late 70s or early 80's.
