As I've been looking for houses and apartments in Omaha, one of the things I really needed is info on the neighborhoods. My realtor sent this and I thought I'd put it on here since there are certainly lots of questions asked about safety. It isn't ideal as safety websites go, but it can be helpful:

I think we need to be a little careful with maps like this. They're pretty vague. They also simply log police reports - which isn't necessarily the whole story.

For instance, I see a report of "Fraud" at 72nd & Ames. I may be a total ignoramus, but I don't know what that means - partly because I have no way of knowing which of the many businesses on that corner might have been involved.

I guess I'm saying that it probably needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

I saw one incident on that map where they "pinpointed" a shooting at one intersection, despite the fact that the shooting happened almost 4 blocks away and the victim had simply run away from the area before being found at the location listed on the map.

So yes, take it with a grain of salt and, as always, double check the stories.

The map I posted is directly feed by the police and sheriff - both organizations launched this, so they must be comfortable with the data otherwise the City would not put the link directly on their own website and send out a press release announcing it.
