The other day I was sitting at Dultmeier Equipment, waiting for them to fill & load an order. Two other guys were doing the same, and this topic came up.

They both said that at 1:00 AM, when the Omaha bars close, a lot of people drive across the bridge and over into Iowa to continue drinking until those bars close. They they drive back into Omaha.

So in a weird kind of way, is the "early" bar closing in Omaha actually contributing to more driving after drinking? It might seem so.

Okay, the bill was signed..

Now, it is up to the local communities to decide.

Omaha and Lincoln both will let this pass through without a glitch. No more Council Bluffs! Unless you mix gambling and drinking.

If anything, this makes things safer... as was said, keeping folks from hitting the road to Council Bluffs to continue their fun... and consider that we're pushing back the hour at which the habitual drinkers drive home... separating them that much more from when our kids are driving home. Not to speak of making us that much more appealing as a convention/entertainment town... and stemming the loss of revenue to Council Bluffs establishments (no offense CB... you get enough of our gambling money).

I hope the bill creates income and doesn't increase problems. Sounds like there's a good possibility of that happening.

We vacationed in NYC a few weeks back, bars there are open 23 hrs a day. Omaha needs to be more like a the big cities. Get rid of this small town BS thinking and maybe Omaha can compete someday.

Actually, when Omaha's council votes for the 2AM bar times.. They will be right on que for that..

We wouldn't be neither behind, nor ahead of times with closing time..

I'm excited to hear this and hope the city council allows it...now maybe I'll go out more when I visit my folks in Omaha. I think it will be great for people (ie. servers, etc.) who get off work later to enjoy the nightlife. In my town last call is right before 2am and since I didn't get home from work til 10:30 or 11 I still had plenty of time to enjoy a couple drinks without being rushed.
