Um, they aren't filled with people like you.

Ahhh... So you want to have a gay district, so that you can discriminate and exclude people who don't happen to like? People who aren't exactly like you?

Well, as long as you don't flaunt your lifestyle in public.

So then... A Gay District is kind of the Homosexual version of the KKK?

Hey, I was trying to inject some humor, but the more I think about it, it makes sense. I lived in a gay neighborhood in DC in the late 70's and early 80's. I think we're moving in the direction of general acceptance for gays, but I don't think Omaha is quite there yet. Back then, there was a safety factor for gay people in choosing a place to live, and in some ways, there still is in parts of the country. I don't think gay people would feel comfortable, for example, holding hands in public in Papillion or west Omaha, and I'm sure some of you would cringe at the sight. What you take for granted, well, we can't. Do I think Omaha should have a gay neighborhood? You can't plan one, they just happen. I think Omaha's too small to support one.

Yeah, yeah, but the hoods would be much more stylish, and the men in better shape.

I wish we could all just get along.

Well yeah, that's a given. White hoods are pretty boring. And I can't really speak to whether or not the men would be in better shape. I haven't paid much attention.

It's just that gay folks are really tired of smug, judgmental fundamentalist Christians who have an attitude and an agenda that is hostile to my interests. I consider groups like Focus on the Family to be "intolerant", and I think you know what I'm talking about. Gay people formed neighborhoods initially to get away from "intolerance". People like you use the Bible to justify your fears and intolerance. Get it? You don't know what it's like being on the receiving end of decades of people like yourself relentlessly making sanctimonious moral judgments about my life. I do. If you want to "get along", tell your church buddies to drop their "intolerance". If that's too much for you and your friends to handle, then please refrain from criticizing the concept of a 'gay neighborhood'.
