I am a civil engineer with 4 years experience in public works projects. I got laid off last November and since then I have been searching for a job but have had ZERO luck so far!

I am also finishing my master's degree in construction management and i was wondering if anyone can give me some guidance as where to look for a construction or construction management jobs. I have contacted many construction companies but no one is hiring and they are all in hiring freeze right now.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have absolutely no background in construction, but you might try this:

AVAYA GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS
Avaya Government Solutions
1-703-653-8000

Project Manager - Construction
Requisition Number: EF18341Location:LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA US
https://avayagov.ats.hrsmart.com/cgi-bin/a/highlightjob.cgi?jobid=18341&site_id=148 (broken link)

Also, you might try indeed.com, a job search engine, and plug in your criteria.

Good Luck!

Also, you might want to check-out some of the big defense contractors like Fluor Corporation:
Fluor Careers: Job Opportunities in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Maintenance (EPCM) and Project Management Services.

Hi Pars,
I must emphasize that I know nothing about these companies. My hunch is that companies with large federal or defense engineering contracts are doing better than most others that may rely upon state, local or private projects right now.

Good luck.

My dad works in construction management. He lives in AZ, but because it's so hard to find construction jobs, he's actually working in TX. Apparently in many parts of TX construction is booming. You may have to look out of state.
