OK so we are getting ready to book the trip in October and need feedback on motels outside the park. What would be the top 3 motels/hotels of choice outside the park for family with 3 kids under 9 years of age. Please list closet to furtherst away and roughly how far away in terms of walking. Have heard some people suggest the Candy Cane Inn and Sheraton...what would you recommend?

I've stayed at the Sheraton. It was nice, and a close walk to the park. I didn't have kids at the time, so I can't even tell you if it would be good for children, but it was a nice hotel. When we stayed there, we had friends staying at the Hilton. It's like 2 blocks further from the park, but is nicer than the Sheraton.

V. =)

wow there is a boat load of them. Just use one of those discount hotel broker sites to find one. Just make sure you stick to a major brand of hotel chain. Most of the smaller hotels are slums for poor people.

There are so many different hotels/motels. We just stayed at the Crowne Plaza a mile away using the friends and family rate and it was great. They have a shuttle that departs every 30 minutes during the parks hours and the drivers were great. They do charge a all in one resort fee for free internet, the shuttle, parking, etc. But, the rooms were so comfy and clean and I was really impressed. We saved so much money not staying in one of the Disneyland hotels and yet didn't sacrafice quality. Some of the Motels are not that great. But, I am very picky!!

My in laws always stay at the Del Rio, right across the street from the entrance. Rooms clean, parking ok. We have visited them and used the pool and jacuzzi - nice. They claim they get the lowest price there.

We just stayed at the La Quinta Inn and Suites Anaheim the week. The staff was excellent and the room was comfy, clean and quiet. The breakfast was not as good as most La Quintas but it was fine. The cost per nite was $61.50. Walk over to the park.... easy.

Anyone have any info on the Desert Inn on Harbor Blvd? We may be going for this motel as it states that it is right5 across the strweet from the main gate to Dland. They look like they have 2 room suites advertised for the larger family?

You should read some reviews. So far, that hotel has very good reviews Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites (Anaheim, CA) - Motel Reviews - TripAdvisor

Years ago we stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites, it was ok, but for the last 3 years we have faithfully been staying at the Cortona Inn & Suites. It's very clean, reliable and the breakfast is better than most. They just put new carpets in renovated some things but the prices didn't go up. It's not right across the street but you can take a shuttle if you have small kids. You have to watch out for the small print when reading about some of those hotels because most of them charge for parking. Cortona does not and that's another reason I keep going back. =0)
