Being objective there are 3 reasons I would never move to Florida.

Weather- Hurricanes? Swamps? Sticky Humidity much of the time? Nah

The Politics - totally not my people politically speaking.

Socially - Not a fan of the northern part of the state which might as well be Georgia and the lower part which might as well be Latin America. I do want to speak English and have them understand me. And this is coming from someone who lives in one of the most racially diverse counties in the country. I also don't like rednecks so I believe North is a No.

This is starting to become twilightzoneinsh. You moving to Europe(now your English being minority language) and as you exclaimed leaning the language= Europeans moving to America(and what ever their native language being a minority language) see it now. You must have some sort of bad luck bumping into these kind of people, hasn't happened to me and I meander around quite a bit.

It's funny you mention Mean streak (reminds me of a Y&T song) because South Floridans don't necessarily have a reputation for being friendly.

I understand there's a definite globalization going on, and our current President and can talk for days about but I won't get into that. It's a good thing you moved from California Rock Newman, seems like South Florida fits you.........
I am not here to take sides but you didn't exactly start this thread off with much objectivity when you stated Miami was quite possibly, "...the worst city on the planet."

I never lived in Miami but I understand the frustration of wanting to return home. I grew up in LA County but lived for about 5 yrs in the northeast (NYC/DC). I enjoyed it but was very ready to get back home after 5 yrs. You'll find your way back.

BluSpark, it really is in my opinion. Miami is HORRIBLE! I felt this thread needed to convey a message to everyone that thought about Miami as an alternative, but the objective comes later in the thread.

It's one thing to feel homesick for your hometown but at this point homesick for me takes on a whole other meaning! Thanks for the support BluSpark and I look forward to the day that I come back to Southern California....

I'm not moving to Europe, that was just a analogy. The only bad luck I've had was moving to Miami-Dade, but it certainly has been an eye opener for me. Without experiences like moving to Miami one couldn't appreciate the finer things that life offers.....

Really? Miami has always been one of the places I have had a desire to see.

Miami / Miami Beach is a great place to see and "visit " or vacation in ... beautiful beaches , women , great night life and restaurants ... now living there is another story ... quality of life in general is better in So Cal .. also as the poster mentioned quality of life is better farther north in Florida like Jupiter , Boca Raton , Wellington , Weston ... in short Miami is like Las Vegas or New Orleans in that they are great places to visit for a few days and then you leave ... Miami in fact may be tougher for some people as it can be rough around the edges .

^^ Yes especially in certain cities and neighborhoods such as North Miami, Opa-locka, Miami Gardens, etc with alot of crime centered around the huge drug trade. South Florida is littered with crime ridden areas in general.
