I visited Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, and other orange county areas and I love the beaches and weather there. I visited on more than once. I was looking to get on section 8 housing because I draw disability. I also work part time. I know that the wait list is very long but I will have to wait it out til something comes through. Does anyone know what range the rents fall in for 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments? I know the cost of living is higher there also and I would probably get a increase in my check if I make this move. I want to live in a nice area such as Irvine because I know for a fact they have low income housing but just have long waiting lists. Can anyone give me information on how the section 8 program works out there. I know you pay part of your rent and section 8 pays the other portion. I put in a application for anaheim housing but I hear on a lot of the threads that anaheim is not a nice location to move to. I signed up for section 8 in Anaheim and San Diego. I got a lot of negative feedback from people that live in San Diego. I was wondering how was orange county since I have visited more than once to those areas.

fyi, section 8 housing is rarely in desirable areas. anaheim might be about as good as it gets with regards to section 8 housing. also, the ca budget is in terrible shape and many social welfare programs are bound to be cut. having said that, i wouldn't expect an easy transition financially speaking.

Many rentals don't allow section 8 and the ones that do are generally ghetto. With the state funds situation that will result in major cuts to all social programs, poor housing conditions, and the much higher taxes and you're probably much better off in Texas.
