I wonder how you could find out if they are reselling? It would probably be cheaper to go with the main ISP.

Maybe, maybe not. I still prefer to buy direct from the actual provider of the service. Maybe you can poke around and see what hardware they're selling and look it up. Its its a CDMA device, its either Sprint or Verizon, GSM would be AT&T or T-Mobile. 4G is pretty much a useless term anyway since the meaning has been diluted badly.

Not really. In real world use CDMA 3G averages maybe 1.5Mbps. Any of the technologies being advertised as 4G can average 6Mbps. I would consider 4x faster meaningful.

But nothing out there is actually 4G. More like 3.5G.

I'll ask around and see how well it works before I make my decision.

I went to Verizon's site and entered a few addresses in Huntington Beach. FiOS wasn't available in any of them. Hopefully they'll start expanding again when the depression ends.
That's a bummer. I thought all of HB had Fios. I have it now in 92649 and had it at my last place in HB 92647. I would call them and ask about it. You are correct, once you have Fios you don't want to go back. If I had to give it up I would probably get 4G unlimited service on the phone and tether it to the home computers. I have 3G unlimited now and pretty impressed with the speed.

Unlimited 4G sounds good. Which plan would you recommend?

time warner cable is very good in this area imho. had top performance(consistent 25mbit down and great pings/latency) and my only complaint was the rather weak upload(which was still 3mbit up or so)

Time Warner may soon implement some sort of cap. They're experimenting with it in some parts of the country.

Good question. Verizon currently has 4G LTE in the area but no phones available yet (soon). A 4G USB modem is available but not unlimited.

I'm thinking about using ClearWire when it's fully deployed. In the meantime, Virgin Mobile has an unlimited wireless plan for only $40 per month. It might not be the fastest, but it's everywhere I want to go.
