I sat on the wooden benches of Wrigley Field. And was there for Reggie's 4whateverhundreth. I sat in Anaheim Stadium when there were 7,000 people. Maybe. And 5,000 of those were Red Sox fans.

I also have a few Frank Tanana stories but I'll save those for later.

As a kid I saw several Angels games at Wrigley Field. When the city of Anaheim built Anaheim Stadium my Grandfather was at the ground-breaking. I grew up in Anaheim and went thru all of the name changes. I remember one of the reasons for the team to be named California Angels was that Gene Autry was concerned about the Alcoholics Anonymous comparison if they were called Anaheim Angels. That early version of the team did have some pretty infamous partyers on the roster!

Still, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, United States, North America, Planet Earth - is pretty silly.

But honestly, I am happy that players like Texiera, Crawford and Beltre (especially) decided to go somewhere else. The trade for Wells is an expensive one but the team did away with the salaries of Rivera and Napoli so that helps. They are still paying $11 million to what's-his-name... (I refuse to even spell it out). Baaaaad move there.

Boycott? Nah...

Arturo recently made a big promise to all the fans and the sports world how he was going to do EVERYTHING IT TOOK to sign star free agents like Carl Crawford and Beltre. Arturo welched and did just the opposite. The name change 6 years ago pales in comparison to this. Arturo has got to go, and the only way that will happen is if the fans don't repeat the same mistake they made when Arturo changed the name to Los Angeles Angels, even though Anaheim is in The OC. Arturo is a fraud, always has been.

For those who would like to see the team go back to Anaheim Angels, IT IS TIME TO BOYCOTT GOING TO THE GAMES--NO WIMPING OUT THIS TIME.
Meh, the Angels got out bid and there were very few marquee names available. Not a big deal. Save the money to pay Weaver instead

Welcome aboard robbybee! I'd never heard the AA = AA thing. I'd heard Autry wanted to reach out to people beyond Orange County.

OK - There's some pretty heavy duty reminiscing on this board about old Orange County and So Cal. Think you're up for the challenge?
