Last summer I visited my friend in Enciniats, CA. Really cool town but no boardwalk, all cliffs. It just didnt feel entirely like what I was looking for. Any advice would be much appreciated,
Thanks,

Well, Encinitas is N. San Diejo... if you go south to Pacific Beach in SD there's long "boardwalk" (it's actually pavement) that goes to Mission Beach. You can walk, bike, blade... it does get crowded though in the summer and weekends, but what beach doesn't?
There're a lot of bars and restaurants around there too.

I lived there a few years as a teenager... it was fun!

Actually, San Clemente completed their coastal trail in 2008 - it runs 2.3 miles from North Beach to Calafia Beach: Coastal Trail. It's mostly sand, with a small section of boardwalk, and I don't think you could rollerblade, but it is great for walking, running, riding bikes, and walking your dog. It does parallel the train tracks, and it is mostly adjacent to bluffs, but it is still really nice. Huntington/Newport is probably more what you are looking for, but I wouldn't rule out San Clemente. Plus there is great surfing, I think the downtown area is really charming, and it still has that beach town feel.

Also, check out this site for the California Coastal Trail, it covers all the coastal trails by county: California Coastal Trail.

Many of these places, including San Clemente, also have piers, which kind of serve as a boardwalk.
