O.K. OC experts, tell if this was a good plan. I'm going to an address on Beach Blvd about a mile or two south of the 405. I could have flown into either Long Beach on Jet Blue or OC on Southwest. I chose Long Beach since I heard it was a very small and easy airport to deal with (plus Jet Blue is nicer). I'll need to get to that Huntington Beach address via cab or call the auto dealership I'm going to for a courtesy van. Its this Sunday morning and I think is about 14 miles. Should I have gone with the Orange County airport, or is the distance not too much greater with Long Beach? If the taxi is around $50 down there I'll just do that instead of waiting the 45 minutes (or more) for the courtesy van. I need to get that car and get back up north as quickly as possible.

Please tell me I didn't blow it by flying into Long Beach!

It looks like Long Beach is about 5 miles farther from your destination than OC. Long Beach is definitely smaller but John Wayne isn't exactly a monster like LAX.

you didn't blow it, john wayne is only a bit closer (maybe a $5-$10 cab ride difference at most).

Yep. Long Beach is about 5 miles further. No Big deal. Both Airports are on the 405, small and have very easy access. The Long Beach Airport is a unique throwback to the 1960s.

Thanks for putting my country bumpkin mind at ease guys. Now I just need to not have a panic attack on the freeway before I get over the Grapevine.

Freeways are easy. Everybody is going the same direction and there is no cross-traffic. Just use your turn signals and remember to check your blind spot when changing lanes. Oh, and don't be the a-hole slow-poke who insists on doing just below the speed limit in the fast lane!!!!!

Long Beach Airport was a good choice - especially when you consider the advantages of flying on Jet Blue VS Southwest. That's a no-brainer!

Only $146 total one way from Sacramento too (just booked last Sunday - not bad for fairly short notice). I'm saving a pile on this car vs. what it would have been in NorCal - makes the trip worthwhile. The LA area seems to be a good place for new car shopping.

I don't blame you, that steep pass is killer -- sometimes I feel like my car won't make it as other cars zoom pass me, I usually end up going into the far right lanes. :[

The trip went great and I went from Long Beach to Beach Blvd in just 15 minutes (if that). Long Beach airport was tiny - I couldn't believe how quickly you can get out of it. Car buying trip went well and it was a pleasant eight hour drive back up north. Oh, and Norm's on Beach Blvd rocks - one of the best coffee shops I've been too (wish they were in NorCal!). Every one I dealt with in Huntington Beach was nice as could be - here I thought people in SoCal were unfriendly.

Glad your trip went well and that you had a good time down here. The Friendliness of HB is one of the reasons I decided to settle here. Its a great place to live.

Norm's is a pretty good little choke and puke isn't it?
