I've taken both... It seems like the 5 takes longer... It takes forever just to even get to Anaheim etc plus at one point it merges into three lanes. However the 405 can get clogged too and I hate the transition from the 405 to the 5....

From South O.C, what is the best way of getting into Los Angeles? 405 or 5?

Downtown? Are you carpooling? Is this during commuting hours or just out to see big buildings and action and get the "edge" for the weekends instead of boring old Lake Forest?

The 5 is the most direct route but even if you took the 405 way out to the 110 it would only be nine miles longer. You'd have to compare that to the time sitting in traffic on the 5 assuming the 405 route was moving faster.

Check Sigalert.com Los Angeles Traffic Map during your expected commute times. Also, a nice GPS system with traffic would be helpful assuming no one is in the car to look at sigalert on a laptop (like I do in my vanpool).

Metrolink is the best way. The 5 and 405 both suck

Neither is good, Jackie. Neither route is good. Just take the most direct route and deal with the traffic.

Just don't text while you are stuck in traffic - cause you will end up rear-ending some poor *schmuk...

I have a Garmin but it doesn't have traffic... I will check Sigalert.. I can check it at work before I leave or on my blackberry probably.

It's during 4:00 pm on weekdays. It's for acting classes so it could be to various locations in L.A depending on which class I am taking...

I've never tried Metrolink before, never took transportation since I was a kid. I'll go research it right now and see how long it would take and where I would park my car; just so I know...

Not if you want to become a working actress in L.A; casting directors are looking for top schools in L.A. All of the top improv and cold reading classes in L.A if you want to do television. If you want to act as a hobby then OC schools are ok. The only decent school in LA is South Coast Rep but to land an agent and all you need training with additional LA coaches.

I am curious..do you think your goals might be a bit lofty??

just wondering...takes an awful lot of talent,,years and years of hitting the streets...to become a "working actress"..

not to mention...didn't you say you don't like people?? doesn't see, to jive with these ambitions..

just sayin

OCHSA fits in with Hollywood, but only if you're still in high school. The success of OCHSA over the past 20+ years leads me to believe there are some options available for adults in OC, though, since those same teachers and the products of those teachers live here and teaching their craft off campus is something teachers of all types do.
