Yeah, for weekend produce shopping, I think that ferretkona is right. The OC Fairgrounds Marketplace is rich with vendors. The Marketplace closes during the run of the OC Fair, however, so you will have to make other arrangements.

Tustin, Orange, Irvine and many other OC cities have "certified farmer's markets" (where the vendors actually are required to grow the produce they sell) but they held are mostly on weekdays.

Henry's, Sprouts and Mother's are all great alternatives - especially if you are looking for "organic" produce. (personally, I won't pay the premium for that label but some will) Grower's Direct on 17th street in Costa Mesa is a great produce market as well. And in Tustin is Manassero Farms at 17th and Newport. They grow all of their own stuff and it's all great quality!

I hate to pay to enter, what is it a buck each? Free parking
But the market place has it nailed down. Do not buy socks there. Incense is decently priced.

Although not a farmers market, per se, Abundant Harvest offers fresh organic produce at specified sites throughout California. The produce is always fresh, and you get a lot for your dollar. You just have to sign-up, prepay and pickup your box at a designated time and location.

I used to go to the Irvine drop-off, but it looks like they now have one in Mission Viejo, as well. It’s a pretty good deal.
