My employer, Meggitt will be closing our New Hampshire facility within a year or so and consolidating it with their Ca. operations.
Naturally, some of us are looking to keep employed even if it means moving with the product lines to the Irvine area.
I would be interested to hear from others who are part of this consolidation.
I know it will be a culture shock as we have no State income tax, no sales tax, no seat belt law (for adults), no motorcycle helmet law and everyone knows a State rep. (we have 400) and State reps. and State Senators make $100 a year.
I guess there are a lot of unemployed aerospace workers in the Irvine area. Will a NH transferee be able to fit in?
(I know it seems odd to us too that a company would move INTO California at this time.)

I just applied to several positions with Meggitt. They have operations in and jobs in Irvine, San Juan Capistrano, North Hollywood, Simi Valley, and Corona.

Irvine's unemployment rate is around 7% or 8% but I don't know what it is for aerospace workers. Boeing is laying off lots of people, probably several of whom live in the South OC area (like my neighbor Alex who just got his 60 day notice last week after 23 years with Boeing) or my friend Debbie who lives in Newport Beach and who got laid off in May after about 12 years with Boeing.

The New Hampshire facility is scheduled to close its doors by June 30. Has anyone out there applied to work at the Meggitt Irvine facility?
The building has been revamped for Meggitt and it must be nice.

No but I am sure it will get flooded with applications. Probably one of the reasons they decided to come out here is purely for the available amount of talent. This area is highly educated, especially irvine. So i'm sure they will have no trouble finding people with masters degrees,PHDs etc. Also I'm sure the boeing lays offs were a big factor, I'm sure they would love to pick up those engineers to see what boeing is up to.

So what are you planning on doing? It's been 2 years, lol.
