I grew up in OC and moved to San Francisco for law school in 1985. I've been a Bay Area denizen since then, but I'm seriously considering a move back to OC to be close to family and a more relaxed lifestyle and mindset. I'm curious if anyone else has lived away from OC for a long period of time and then moved back, and what it was like for you (disappointed, glad, etc.). Thanks much!

I would definitely spend some weekends down there to get a better feel for it...if that is possible. I don't think I would want to deal with the traffic.

Even though places like OC change, I'll bet a person (you?) change alot more in 25 years than the place changes. Sounds like you're about my age (50 in three weeks - I think I've written that in about five posts just today - must be on my mind a lot). Big difference between us at 25 and us now. Back then the suburban masterplanned communities probably weren't cool. Now, I wouldn't live anywhere else.

OC today is not the same OC as it was a quarter-century ago - but if you have family here, I am sure that you are aware of that fact.

No kidding. I recently went back to visit and got lost within a couple miles of the house I grew up in. Seems they like to build or extend roads there without telling me.

this guy says he is in the Bay Area..specifically San Francisco...ie...the traffic up there is pretty much as bad as southern calif..plus...we have better weather

you coming from Minnesota...yikes...yeah..maybe less traffic..but the cold,,humidity and mosquitos...cannot be found anywhere here!!

we have Minnesota relatives...my SIL in April said "it is not THAT cold in MN"....so it is a perceptional thing.....if one has lived in 9 months of bitter cold,,lots of snow etc...and can say it is not THAT cold..my question to her was "so what is your definition of cold then?"

Wow, you're spot on! I've lost the taste for the "hip" urban lifestyle ... the drawbacks seem to be more magnified (in my mind, at least) than even five years ago. I'm thinking my answer may be to move to an orderly and quiet place like Irvine.

P.S. Happy birthday!
