Hello, we are a family with two pre-school kids moving to California from Lithuania on 6th Oct, because we won green cards and decided to settle down somewhere in Los Angeles region not far away from the coast, we are thinking about Manhattan Beach or other areas in Orange Country. I know the living in CA is very expensive, I've checked the rent rates in rent.com and simmilar pages. Please help to find the place where we could stay temporally until we find a room or apt to rent (the hotels are too expensive for us). We are planing to look at local newspapers when we arrive anf we hope to find something to rent. Is it possible to find a room for a family for less than $1000 per month in this area?
Thank You for any help or advice.

If you are a family of 4, I don't believe you will find a 2 bedroom around $1000. You may be looking at $1500.00. Sad, but true.

Agree, if you want to be near the coast you WILL pay for it.

Honestly I think about all you'll find in that range would be room share type situations or possibly something in a really bad area. Not what I would want for a family.

Have you considered moving someplace more reasonable, saving up, then possibly relocating to Manhatten Beach later?

Congratulations on your green cards, hopefully you'll find something that works for you.

Default Villa Tosacana Apts - Westminster

The area in Westminster sits near the 405 and 22 freeways and we moved from there before moving to Vegas last year and it was an OK complex - 2 BR for 1070 - it was the cheapest I found, but had a good landlord that will work with you and a GOOD school!

You can try looking around on craigslist: san francisco bay area classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events and finding places - maybe you will get lucky and be able to take over someone's lease or something.

You may also try looking in Long Beach. Some areas are ok and you can get lucky, though it is quite urban and run down in areas... even in the worst parts we personally never had a problem. But at least you can get cheaper rent there.

Thinking about it though - isn't Manhattan beach further up?

If you are looking for a place to stay try travel lodge hotels or even looking up hostels if you are just looking for a temp gig till you find what you want?
