I want to be able to stay for a couple weeks to a month at a time. Would need to be furnished, clean, and small. I've looked at short term vacation rentals and corporate housing rentals and they are stupidly expensive.

Marriot has extended stay accommodations. Otherwise you will need to rent a room permanently, especially if you intend to leave suits, clothing etc there.

I second the craigslist rooms for rent. Also would help if you knew anyone who lives in Irvine, ca. They would probably cut you a good deal.

UCI students bunk up 5 people to an apartment meant for 1. You can check the UCI newspaper for what is advertised. The UCI students are quite adept at living cheaply.
