I'm a Chicago resident, in my late 30s, looking to move to Chicago with my wife (no kids). we like to go out a lot and we have a few friends in Orange County but want to also meet new people. A little about myself: In my early 20s I started a few businesses, now totaling five. Of those, I'm completely out of the day-to-day operations of four of them. The fifth will be soon run by a guy I trust and have known for years and don't plan to start anymore. My income has been between 1-1.5m for the past few years and my wife and I lead a frugal life (we own a Prius and a Camry, our house is paid off). That being said, we're sick of the cold. Which area of OC would be best? We're flying out in a few weeks to look at a few different areas but I would like to get info that isn't out of a real estate agent's mouth. Neither of us came from money so I don't know if any of these areas are too smarmy for us. What are the pros and cons of each? We're looking at Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Santa Ana and Huntington Beach

Those are very different areas, and they aren't particularly close to one another either. It would be like my asking you whether I should live in Burr Ridge, Hyde Park, Cicero or Lombard.

What kind of house do you want? How much do you want to spend?
What kinds of things are important to you--schools, beach access, nature preserves, close to toll roads?
Will you work from home or commute somewhere?
