I'm coming up next month to interview at my company's Cerritos office and I wanted to get some suggestions on nearby neighborhoods to apartment hunt in. I'm 29, single, no kids and like going to concerts, microbreweries, eating ethnic food, etc. Really enjoy nature as well.

Any suggestions on places to look that are convenient to Cerritos?? I'm looking to spend about $1300 (or less) on a 1br, ideally - but can be flexible for a great apartment/location.

So far I am targeting Long Beach but wanted other suggestions on easily commutable locations to and from Cerritos.

Thanks!

Just so you know, Cerritos is in LA county not Orange county.
Why not rent in Cerritos? Everything is relative when it is so close to Cerritos.
There are apartments in Lakewood as well. I would avoid apartments in Bellflower, they are near the danger zones. $1300 is not going to get you much. Take a look a duplexes, for some reason they usually are not looked at and often are cheaper than apartments.

My rent in La Palma is slightly less than that for 1br.. safe but boring suburban neighborhood..

I think OP is looking for somewhere more exciting.. but 1300 might only get you a studio in those places.. or roommates (under 1000).

Yep (Belmont Shore in LB, and the Downtown area of SB, Downtown or Harbour Area of HB)

Thanks a lot, everyone. I'll browse around online and see what is realistic in terms of average apartment prices and visit these areas while I visit. This will help my negotiations with my company as well. Looking forward to coming out!

Not on his budget

"I'm looking to spend about $1300 (or less)"

$1300 was just an estimated figure. A lot of what I find in terms of apartment costs will have a large impact on my salary negotiatoins.

For a nice (not luxury) 1br in one of the nice parts of LB, SB or HB - what are we realistically talking? >$1500?

Why not get a studio for 1000 - 1300 in the nice parts of LB, SB, or HB?

Is living near the beach very important to you?

Or do you prioritize living near similar people under 35?

If it's the latter, you might want to live in a college town away from the beach (Fullerton, Whittier, maybe even Irvine) considering your budget.
