Looking for true crime books with Orange County (or Los Angeles or Southern California) as (one of) the settings. Doesn't necessarily have to be murder but it seems most true crime books are related to murder.

A couple I have found that I plan on getting from the library are:
If you really loved me : a true story of desire and murder, Author: Rule, Ann.

Angel of darkness (a book on Randy Kraft)

I'd love to find a book on this guy: "Gerald Parker" "Bedroom Basher"

Here's another one I plan on getting (not OC)

The Wineville Chicken Coop Murders.
Wineville is now Alta Loma.

Any Others?

The Ann Rule book is excellent. She nails Garden Grove and it's an excellent account of what happened.

Obviously "Helter Skelter" about the Manson murders.

"Cold Storage" which is about the Denise Huber murder case.

There are also books on the Hillside Stranglers and the Night Stalker.

All of these are pretty grisly. I wouldn't leave them out where your kids could read them.

For OC, either James Elroy or Elmore Leonard. Or both. Can't remember.

Raymond Chandler. Start with Red Wind.

If you want the address of the chicken coop murders house, DM me. It's just a few miles South of me.

Anyone familiar with Santa Ana conditions can identify with the opening words to Red Wind:

There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen.

In the FD we had a condition we called the "triple witching hour." I'm sure the cops had their name for it as well. It was the period of time when three conditions came together that always ensured mayhem: Santa Ana winds, a full moon, and a 3-day-weekend. Crime and violence always ensued.

If I was an author, here's a story I'd consider publishing:

Cold-case inquiry into Santa Ana killing leads to professor - latimes.com

SAPD detectives make arrests in 1995 cold case murder | New Santa Ana

Murder suspect says she's being urged to take deal - NewsTimes

Pretty nice looking lady.
