Lol. OK, to make-up for the corny joke here goes a serious link to a very interesting blog that covers the story of La Vida Hot Springs in Carbon Canyon, Brea. The old bathhouse itself is long gone (having started operations in the early 30's) but the spring (there's actually two) itself was known & used by the Chumash indians.

Here a map to the location;
La Vida Mineral Springs in Orange County, California. @ CaliforniaMaps.org

The hot spring is on the north side of Carbon Canyon Rd, in the ravine that runs behind the still-extant cement water tank, about 150 yards or so up the hill. Careful because the immediate area is prime for rattlesnakes and the footing can be tricky given that there's lots of algae from the mineral water stream that flows downhill. You'll find a pipe from where the water surfaces and another smaller fountain nearby. The pipes where installed back in the 30's when the bathhouse was operational. Also, a warning: DO NOT DRINK from the hotspring, as the heavily mineral-laden water will probably give you a badcase of EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA before you can even make it halfway back to the car.

Don't ask ..just trust me on this one

Here's a link to the blog that tells the whole story:
Carbon Canyon Chronicle: La Vida Mineral Springs in 1985

You can also Google La Vida Hot Springs, Brea CA to learn more.

I got a Two-for-One Sale going on today, so here's yet another link to an interesting piece of OC history. Granted, it might not technically fit your requirement of being an "abandoned place".

I'm talking about Robber's Peak (Robbers Peak - Santiago Creek, Oak, Anaheim Hills Trails | Anaheim California Hikes | Trails.com) located in Anaheim Hills not too far south from Weir Canyon Rd and the 91 freeway. The place is also known as Robber's Rock and legend has it that Mexican banditos would use it as a look-out vantage point from where to spot potential victims as these traveled along the roads below and/or to evade hostile posses.
Some believe that the infamous outlaw Joaquin Murrieta(Joaquin Murrieta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) frequented the area.

The trail leading up to the rock (actually a group of rocks) starts from the northside of the parking lot at Anaheim Hills Elementary School (6450 East Serrano Anaheim, CA 92807).

Once again BEWARE, thar be rattlers in them thar hills!

I've never heard it called Robber's Peak. Always Robber's Roost.

But I'm glad you're out exploring HarleyGuy. O.C. has some great spots to discover.

I heard that they're considering switching the name to GOLDMAN SACHS' PEAK, because legend has it that old-timey banksters would climb on up there looking for victims down below on which to shower worthless fraudulent derivative financial investments and 0% down mortgage loans..
