Marriott Irvine and Hyatt Regency Irvine are both nice, professional, business hotels. They are well reviewed on tripadvisor.com

The Westin South Coast Plaza is lovely and the Residence Inn John Wayne Airport is good.

Just don't go to the La Quinta in Anaheim, I believe on Katella. It's nasty! When my parents have visited me they've stayed at the Marriot next to the airport (very nice) and also at the Embassy Suites in Santa Ana....mostly that one. The only thing about ES is that there is literally nothing around it except other hotels. One restaurant, but it's like a downgrade from Denny's.

Since Anaheim is so hit or miss, I'd be hesitant of anything in Anaheim without first being able to see it first.

Do your parents have any experience with the LaQuinta in Irvine? It's in Irvine, so I can't imagine it's anything like something you'd find in Anaheim.

I wouldn't stay in the La Quinta Irvine. Its an old mill that is historic, but you are basically sleeping in an old farm building that has been remodeled. IT IS DIRECTLY NEXT TO RAILROAD TRACKS TOO. Metrolink and Amtrak trains will run from 4:30AM-12AM and then freight trains will be running by from about 11PM to 6AM frequently. I'd imagine its very loud considering how close the hotel is to the train tracks and there is a crossing right there so they blare their horns as they pass. ALSO they are doing construction on the Sand Canyon Blvd/rail intersection to make a bridge. The construction equipment parks along the side of the hotel and then they turn their engines on bright and early at 7AM to start construction.
^^
I work in the Spectrum Area but have not stayed there. My work does not recommend it though to people coming on business here due to the poor reviews from past business travelers that stayed there. The construction is a recent development that will occur through 2014.

Is certainly is ColdJ! All windows are double-paned and provide both temperature & sound insulation. And although the exterior was purposely conserved for its historic value, the inside of the hotel is pristinely modern. However it is located in a light-industrial/commercial area and there's nothing much within walking distance. I certainly wouldn't go there unless I specifically needed to be in that area.

Folks, lots of bad crime news around Anahiem, Garden Grove

Should I avoid these big chains and just stay in Newport Hyatt Regency at $186

Marriott, Westin, Hyatt, etc in Irvine are all $200+

OR

LA on Sunset and commute for full experience of Cali
