Hi, Was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what the commute from Newport Beach to San Dimas would be like. We moved from N.C. to Glendora about 6 months ago as my husband accepted a job in San Dimas. We are leasing a house now in Glendora but we would really love to live at/near the beach. Just not sure how the commute would be. Normal work hours 8-5. We love Glendora but really want to live closer to the beach if the drive isn't going to be too much. We have been here long enough to see what the traffic can be but not long enough to know what it will be...I appreciate your input.

You will be against the flow of the majority of drivers at some points, but it will still be a rough commute. All the major routes are busy both directions. The 5 and 57 can be a nightmare. Sometimes, the 210 is a little better, but that is at the end of the trek. I commuted to South OC from the San Dimas area for a year, and it was awful! Mileage does not mean much here. I was on the road 1.5 hrs each way, on average. But, that was the opposite direction. Your commute may be a little better.

The 5N->57N is not bad in the early AM (around 6:30) since you just stay on the 5 for a very brief period of time.

You can also try Seal Beach or Long Beach. The 605 isn't incredibly bad if you are going opposite way of the traffic.

Thank you genjy...Haven't been to Seal Beach yet. Fell in love with Newport Beach and Balboa Peninsula though.

Not gonna be fun.. 57 North will be mostly stop and go until the LA county boundary.. although it's still gonna be better than the other direction (a parking lot.)

That wasn't my experience when I used to drive it in the early morning. The trip north was fairly easy while southbound traffic was often jammed.

I used to take the 57 north up to Azusa in the morning and traffic was fine. This was anywhere from 7am-9am depending on what time I started work. I got on in Brea. Maybe a little slowness through the 57/60 interchange but nothing too bad. It was the southbound traffic that was bumper to bumper.

Yeah, the 57N/60E interchange is always a bit backed up because the merge is so poorly designed.
