The $19-45,000 (after remodeling) house I was raised in is now worth about $1.5 million in what used to be 92660. Amazing!

Average rents in Newport Beach have broken the $2,000 ceiling, but Irvine is not far behind and Dana Point is also inching up.

Five highest rental areas in OC:
Newport Beach monthly rents jump $156 - Lansner on Real Estate : The Orange County Register

Newport Beach $2,212
Irvine $1,933
Dana Point $1,880
Aliso Viejo $1,702
Costa Mesa $1,677

That's the bad news for renters. The "good news" is that vacancy rates are high in Irvine and Aliso Viejo; ranging somewhere between 6.2-8.0 percent.
