I voted 9 because I like everything except that we're still on the other side of LA from our parents in the Conejo Valley. But that's my problem. Also, OC is expensive. Other than that: weather, jobs, diversity, safe, planned, good schools, educated people, beaches and mountains, I like it - especially the weather.

I voted 10. We could live anywhere, but we live here.

What's not to love? The weather, the beach, the mountains, I can ride, play golf, shoot my shotgun... year round.

Is there a negative scale? LOL, sorry, but I have lived here my whole life and hate it. I stay becuase of family who can't leave. My reasons include: the traffic, the weather, (I like distinct seasons, not 80 degrees on Thanksgiving), the fact there are too many people, the prices...well, you get the idea.
I don't blame some for loving it, and no offense intended to them. Many people love the weahter, but I can't wait to leave someday.

high cost of living
not many good jobs
headache traffic
lots of ghetto people

Basically, if you aren't rich, OC is definitely NOT the place for you.

I'm planning on leaving when my GF gets out of college.

I guess you either love or hate it...
I think we'll end up trying it. My job offer seems to be offsetting some of the cost of living. And I am really curious if the sunshine will be a good exchange for real seasons (and an nasty winter in MI).
By the time the kids (now 1 and 3) are in school age I think we'll leave again.
If this thread stays alive long enough I'll post in 6-12 mo - how i like it ;-)

Yeah... *sigh* I too am very disappointed in the OC. The cost of living wouldn't be such an issue if you got what you paid for. It's been really disappointing for me, I'm so discouraged. My budget is not that low and I still can't find anything I think is worth the amount of money being asked.

I too see that there are not that many high paying jobs available. It's so strange - I suppose if you are from here and you have family here you porbably love it and are used to it. You most likely just don't know any different -- which is absolutely fine. And probably the most positive situation to be in. SVP's, CMO's, CEO's and other executive level position pay appears to be about 10 years behind the times. But if you are already here, then I suppose you are used to it. It's very different here for me, the people seem nice enough, although it does appear to be rather segregated.

I don't see many ghetto people, but I would imagine that's because I just haven't been to those areas yet. The traffic on the highways IS bad, but to be expected. And how one place can be really far away from the other especially if you take the toll roads which makes you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere.

What I DIDN'T realize was the LACK of retail here. Where do people shop in Yorba Linda or Anaheim Hills? If you say the villages of Orange - okaaayyyy..... so that's one place. Savi Ranch is another place with about 6 stores.... I'm just freaked because this area reminds me more of rural retail and restaurant areas with sh*tloads of housing developments. Irvine is a little better - but it's still really spread out and Laguna Niguel is okay for older retail centers but the same thing there - one of this or that, but you end up driving an hour to get ANYWHERE!

Sorry - I'm just venting. And I have to remain here for at least the next year for contractual reasons. =(
