Is there a lot of traffic going north on the 5 and the 405 around 6pm on a weekday?? I'm going from San Clemente to Orange

The 5 freeway between the Irvine Spectrum and the 55 freeway is horrible that time of day, even in the car pool lane. The 405 may be better.

Check Sigalert.com Irving Traffic Map around 6PM each day for a couple days and you will get an idea. I am looking right now and northbound 5 looks bad.

Northbound 5 in the evening is horrendous pretty much the whole way from Mission Viejo to Orange. I see it every evening going in the other direction. Can u take a metrolink train? There's one right in San Clemente.

Take Metrolink if they have a train running at that time. Either that or just walk/ride a bike. A bike will be faster than driving - walking about the same as driving.
