Hi! I may be moving down to OC from San Fran for job purposes. I was wondering the best place for single 30 and 40 year olds to live? I'm late 30's, and would like to live in a somewhat trendy area, maybe with great restaurants and shops nearby. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Still pretty vague, but any of the OC cities - Newport comes to mind.

Do you have a budget or housing size in mind?

Bear in mind that shops and restaurants are everywhere in OC. It's planned communities and a ton of stuff to do. I personally like Northern OC because you have better access to LA for more variety, and the closer to the beach the better if budget allows. I made the same move myself, but from San Jose.

The Village at Irvine Spectrum Center is a good place for single professionals. You are within walking distance to the Irvine Spectrum, which has a lot to offer. I several friends that live there and really enjoy it. They have wine tasting in front of the convenience store/market. It's easy to meet people. Plus they will open your beer for you while you're at the store and you can just walk around drinking it... Feels kinda like being in Vegas. BUT it closes down very early (all the public areas at the Village close by 10:00pm, and they have security guards who make sure you are gone by then). Definitely lacking in some areas if you compare it to Newport Beach. It's also kind of pricey compared to other areas ($1,765 my friend pays for a small one bedroom).

You seem like a prime candidate for Corona Del Mar, in the Flower Streets. Corona Del Mar is a upscale beach neighborhood in Newport Beach.

It's walkable, stocked with nice restaurants and bars that cater to an older crowd (as opposed to a college or 20-something crowd). It's close to Fashion Island, a very upscale outdoor shopping area. There is a nice beach there, and plenty of neat houses and apartments.

The Flower Streets, the old core of CDM, is bound by the ocean on one side, 5th Ave on the other, and bound on the sides by Avocado St. and Hazel Dr.

Prepare to spend at least $4,000 per month for an old nasty shack in that area.

Those are really nasty. Try impressing the babes with your address and then bring them over to these roach infested dumps. Not good.
