Royal Oak and Birmingham are really great. The worst is Warren. Much of south Warren looks worse than NE Detroit and it lacks a lot of walkability once you cross I-696 and becomes sorta boring and sprawling.

Actually i live in the same metro he escaped from. There are folks here who say the same thing about increased traffic and density:

For some, it could just be a function of remembering when things were different than they are now. As I get older the idea of living in a denser, more convenient urban environment seems more attractive.

You're not alone in that regard as demographers expect not just the young, but also more and more boomers to move to multi dwelling units in very densely populated areas.

People want ready accessibility to shops, restaurants, parks, hiking/biking trails; and fewer maintenance chores.....and on and on. To the rabid haters of newer communities, that means even greater demand for those places, like it or not.

(I feel a sudden urge to find a video )

Why were you driving in Manhattan? That makes about as much sense as taking transit in Aliso Viejo.

Manhattan is actually very easy to get around, IMO. Much easier than OC. But obviously you walk or take transit. No one drives around Manhattan the way they do in OC, looking for parking spots and the like.

None of your damn business. Happy?

Actually the city is thinking of improving transit in Aliso. It's all part of the Green Initiative. Are you really that limited, or are you faking?

Look, you don't know me and I don't walk o work (I wish I did) or take transit ( That would be nice). BTW, did you forget you just implied that transit makes no sense in Aliso Viejo? Work on your reasoning skills.

Huh??? That's patently false. You have obviously never lived in Manhattan. Ignorance is bliss for some.

I'm thinking of setting up a fund so that some posters can finally get a GED. In the meantime, here's a video related to parking in Manhattan. It's such a PITA, that someone may actually pay a million dollars to own a permanent parking spot:

I lived in Manhattan for 10 years, and no, the vast majority of people don't drive in Manhattan. We have this funny thing called public transit.

According to the Census, something like 15% of Manhattanites even own cars. Even most people in Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx don't own cars.

And, among those, I have never heard of anyone driving around Manhattan doing their daily errands, like you do in OC. Who would be crazy enough to drive down Broadway looking for parking to pick up a carton of milk or a prescription?

Again, Manhattan is very easy to get around, unless you're crazy enough to pretend that Manhattan is Irvine. Then Manhattan is very difficult to get around.

Similarly, Irvine is very easy to get around, unless you're crazy enough to pretend that Irvine is Manhattan. Then Irvine is very difficult to get around.

I'm pretty sure that's what a lot of people on here are after who ask about "walkable communites". The problem we've long had is with our zoning that separates where people live from where they work, shop, and dine.
