If the rent is below average, it could be an older/dated/well-worn unit or located in an inconvenient area (too far from jobs or right next to the freeway).

Yes you can find a 2bed in Irvine for under 2K. Irvine is very nice. You'll be impressed.

LOL. Look on craiglist. There are pleny of nice two bedroom places in safe areas for 2000 or under. People on this board exaggerate everything.

With your original budget ($1800/mo), you're not going to find much in decent areas, but you never know. Avoid Santa Ana and Costa Mesa at all costs. San Clemente is nice, as people have posted, but might be a bit of a commute depending on where you need to go. Irvine is your best bet, but it might be tough finding a place in your price range.

Get ready for horrendous traffic at all hours of the night and day, rude drivers and rude people in general, and sufficating fakeness. Other than that, it should be great to be in OC. Hopefully you won't have to be there long.

Costa Mesa has some fine areas. Some parts may as well be Santa Ana, but the whole city isn't bad like Santa Ana is.
