Yes you can find a 2bed in Irvine for under 2K. Irvine is very nice. You'll be impressed.

LOL. Look on craiglist. There are pleny of nice two bedroom places in safe areas for 2000 or under. People on this board exaggerate everything.

With your original budget ($1800/mo), you're not going to find much in decent areas, but you never know. Avoid Santa Ana and Costa Mesa at all costs. San Clemente is nice, as people have posted, but might be a bit of a commute depending on where you need to go. Irvine is your best bet, but it might be tough finding a place in your price range.

Costa Mesa has some fine areas. Some parts may as well be Santa Ana, but the whole city isn't bad like Santa Ana is.
