We're relocating to OC shortly.

I am first generation here and my husband is half mexican and half white.

Reading other posts I'm starting to feel a little scared/concerned about people in OC.
We don't really fit any of the typical stereotypes and I'm curious of what I will encounter.

We....

-have never required gov't assistance
-are both college educated
-we're educated through the private school system in sd
-speak english AND spanish
-would wave the mexican flag (if I had one) but we are both proud of being American and know how fortunate we are
-have one child
-do not condone cars being parked in our yard

Not that any of the above makes us better people, just addressing the points I've read on here. WTH? is going on with all these stereotypes in this day and age? I'm a little freaked out of OC, please tell me this is not something I will continuously encounter.

I was born in Anaheim and I've lived in and around OC all my life. I have a lot of close friends from various different cultures and backgrounds. I don't think internet message boards are very representative of the general population when it comes to these things.

Well a lot of times stereotypes are formed when many examples that set about certain characteristics keep occurring
over and over. While you may not be that way, many others are. Best of luck to you. I would imagine if you are like what you say, you would be fine.

If you have enough money to live in OC, you will not have any issues. In OC people judge you by your income and assets more than by race or any other factor. Do you: Take care of your house and yard; wear nice clothing; use bathrooms and never lawns for waste disposals, being sick or clearing out your nose; live in a nice neighborhood and have no more than two people in each bedroom; drive newer and at least mid level cars; have the newest smart phone and tablet. . .? If so, your OC neighbors will not care what your cultural background is.

Nah, please don't. We do not need to see them again and be reminded how absurd people can be. Plus it woudl be a lot of work for you and serve no purpose at all.

I don't think there are any. That's why I asked.

There have been. Not a lot that I recall but some. I think you have to go back a year or maybe more.

Maybe from some racist lunatic (who was probably a one post member and was banned) but I can't recall. Sometimes I read comments about the crime in "Stabba Ana" or "Anacrime" but those aren't ethnic specific usually. I still don't think I've read too many if any that I recall.

With that, it can be a little disappointing for someone to post an original thread that essentially tricks people into defending comments that might not even have been made. The assertions the original poster is making might not even be true and for us to defend them somewhat validates the erroneous comments.

There are bad examples of people of every race here in Orange County. That being said, if you are a decent person and avoid living in some of the stalwart racist areas (Huntington Beach, for example), you'll do absolutely fine and it's very unlikely you'll encounter any Mexican-hatred. People spew the hate on message boards (I get sick of the commenters on The OC Weekly stories, for instance), but in real life it's a very chill place to live and people tend to just get along. Honestly.
