It's Sunday here in Irvine, and I'm trying to figure out where my wife (no kids) and I can go today to enjoy the day. We are in our early 30s so we are looking for something semi-active (e.g. not sitting all days at the movies, no sports because she's pregnant) and something that is not too common like shopping, eating out. I've been living in OC for all my life so I admit I'm kinda bored with the usual things here in OC and I'm looking for new excitement. It's a bit too hot today (suppose to be in the 90s) be walking outside in the sun or go to the beach. We prefer something that a younger crowd would do. (We both actually look like we're still in our 20s and we'll probably fit right in!! Also, we don't mind driving out far to other cities or even counties (San Diego, Los Angeles, Riverside) for the day. Please offer us some suggestions! Thanks!

rent a Duffy, or Sailboat in Newport, Huntington or Long Beach.

Its going to be way too hot inland unless you hit the mountains.

We were just at Calafia beach a few hours ago, it was cool, cloudy and breezy. Can't see how it could be too hot at the beach BUT good luck finding a place to park. We got there early around 10 and it was full when we left at 12.

Take metrolink ride for fun somewhere and watch the world go by.

I'd second the metrolink suggestion. I used to take the metrolink into downtown LA and just explore various parts of the city. However, considering your wife is with child it probably wouldn't be a good idea to do too much walking around in this heat. There are plenty of stops on the metro within minimal walking distance to something interesting though.
